At the Danbury Super Stop and Shop, 44 Lake Avenue Extension, Alum volunteers set up two “Welcome Tables” complete with posters and flyers at the two entrances to the store. At each entrance, three Columbia Alum volunteers “host” each “Welcome Table” for two hours.  The fourth Alum moves donated items to temporary storage area or loads them into Alum cars, for transport to Dorothy Day pantry at end of shift. We need eight alums to serve during each 2-hour shift.

As shoppers approach we present them with a Wish List some of which they could buy and donate to feed and shelter the homeless. We greet them and immediately inform them we are not requesting any money contributions but rather would deeply appreciate a contribution of items on the Wish List for those who need the services of Dorothy Day.

Volunteers for the earliest 10-12 a.m. shift will help with setup, while volunteers for the latest 4-6 p.m. shift will help with loading and transporting donated items to Dorothy Day pantry. We request alum with minivans and trucks to please volunteer for the 4-6 p.m. shift so your vehicle is used to transport donated items. You will help load then drive and deliver the donations to Dorothy Day’s food pantry, at 11 Spring St, Danbury, a short 2.6 miles away (about 10 minutes drive).
