GLOBAL WARMING - WHAT WE KNOW AND WHAT WE DON'T.
In 2016, Professor David Helfand (Bio) gave a well-received talk on his book, “A Survival Guide to the Misinformation Age.” He shared how to use simple scientific habits of mind to combat misinformation and derive our own conclusions based on the best available evidence. It was a treat.
We are inviting Prof. Helfand back!!! This time you will hear how dispassionate scientific thinking applied to climate change combats misinformation while providing evidence-based conclusions for policy making.
To register, please input number of persons attending in the appropriate Member or Non-Member box on the right then click on PURCHASE TICKETS and follow instructions to RSVP pay. Drinks & light refreshments provided.
Prof. Helfand, before giving scientific conclusions and policy recommendations, lays evidentiary foundations by discussing the science of sunspots, the reflectivity of clouds and polar ice, and the effects of Earth’s orbital changes resulting from astronomical forces beyond our control.
Prof. Helfand will present a precise, honest and evidence-based discussion of the climate change issue, including limitations, uncertainties, and known imperfections both in the data and the climate models. He will also point out some climate change misinformation propagated, unintentionally, by scientifically illiterate but passionate advocates of climate change reversal. Equally important, Prof. Helfand will share evidence-based conclusions concerning the effects of human-generated greenhouse gas emissions on global warming.
